Estd for the small practice
Direction 06 · Landing
For the practice you actually run.

A second opinion at the desk next to yours.

Referent reads alongside you, drafts in your voice, and footnotes everything. Built quietly, for solo and small-firm attorneys who left the big shop to work for themselves — and never want to go back.

“The best argument for Referent is the one I’ve been making to my clients for fifteen years: get a second opinion before you sign.” — a small-business attorney who used to be in-house
i.
Drafts in your voice.
It learns from your last fifty briefs, not from a generic legal corpus. The voice that comes back is the one you’d send.
ii.
Reads what you don’t.
Discovery, country-conditions, deposition transcripts. Surfaces the four pages that matter, marks the rest.
iii.
Cites everything.
Every claim has a source. Bluebook clean. If it can’t cite, it doesn’t say.

Linen & sage.

Pact is the colour of an advisor’s office at 10am — linen-curtain background, deep olive ink, sage as a quiet commitment rather than a loud accent. Clay shows up on the rare emphasis: the page-end CTA, a flagged risk. Easy to live with. Hard to misuse.

The same shell, calmer.

Sage recedes inside the product — appearing only on the active row indicator and pull quotes. Sidebar and content both use the serif so the brand voice carries from the marketing site straight into the first session. Body type is set looser than the others — a little more breathing room, like the practice it’s built for.

What would you like a second opinion on?

A draft, a memo, a citation check, a forty-page country-conditions packet. I’ll mark what to push back on, footnote the rest, and stay out of the way of how you actually write.

i.
Draft A continuance motion citing the new I-589 backlog data.
ii.
Research 9th Circuit credibility-finding standards, last 24 months.
iii.
